Abstract
item.page.abstract.en
This article focuses on an easel painting of Our Lady of Hermanice, notable for its tech nological construction, which has undergone significant changes in appearance and function throughout its history. The painting consists of three compositions: a portrait of a man, overpainted with a depiction of Our Lady of the Snows, which was repainted twice in subsequent centuries to become a twentieth-century painting of the Virgin and Child. Various physicochemical tests were used to analyse the individual compositions, including analytical methods (among others, SEM-EDX, Raman spectroscopy, FTIR) and imaging techniques (MA-XRF, hyperspectral imaging). The information obtained in this way helped to discover the composition and iconography of the aforementioned representations, their technological structure, techniques of execution and state of pres ervation, and to partially determine their dating and provenance and, subsequently, to carry out the conservation and restoration of the painting of Our Lady of Hermanice.
